Open House has grown out of a need to provide something for former carers and people who live on their own. Former carers often find it difficult to move on from their caring role and there are many older people living alone who may find themselves lonely. It can be difficult to go out to join new activities and make new friends if you are lacking confidence. Our group is supportive and aims to help people make these first steps.
The group offers the following:
- Group meetings: a varied programme of speakers, activities, outings and social mornings full of chatter and homemade cake.
- Activity sessions: theatre trips, garden centre outings, cinema visits, shopping trips and meals out
- Transport support: free transport for outings, and help with transport for meetings if possible. (Unfortunately, we are unable to do this outside the Buckingham area.)
The group currently meets on the 1st Thursday of the month from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Centre @ Verney Close. The group also meets on most 3rd Thursdays in local coffee shops, pubs or garden centres for a drink and a chat. The sessions are free to all that attend.
How to join?
Membership of the group is open to former unpaid carers of family or friends and to people who live on their own for whatever reason. There is no subscription to join this group – we raise money through a monthly raffle and fundraising events.
People who live in Buckingham and the surrounding area are welcome at our meetings. Come along and join us and make new friends.
