Since the AGM in July 2019, we continued our programme of events and speakers.
For those able to go, we went for our annual day out to Windsor with a trip on the river, including a meal, then sightseeing walkabout in the town. The weather was glorious and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Those who could not go attended our social morning in the Buckingham Community Centre, well looked after by volunteers. Over the months our Speaker’s subjects ranged from the Wildlife Trust at Ring; An update as far as possible on the development of the proposed new Medical Centre in Buckingham; Living Well, Pastoral care for the diocese of the Phillippines from a Bishop’s assistant and Home Guard Defenders during World War II; a Bring & Buy Sale; a further day out to Stratford upon Avon for Christmas
Shopping and sightseeing in November brought us up to our Christmas Lunch in early December. A huge success again with a hot meal, entertainment and raffle.
The New Year of 2020 started well in January with a very well attended social morning with a bingo session. The chatter was non-stop! I think everyone was glad to meet up again after the long Christmas break. A blind auction of unwanted Christmas gifts at the
end of the month went well. February’s talk was about quilt making and its history. Most informative and inspiring.
By March 2020 the news about Covid 19 virus was becoming more serious. It was now known to be very infectious, closely passed on in gatherings and deadly for the older age group.
In view of the particular vulnerability of our carers and their cared for persons, in this age group, we decided to cancel our March meetings until further notice, hoping information would be clearer over the following weeks. We are happy to state carers contacted over this decision supported our actions.
As we are all aware, Government guided “lockdown” occurred in late March as pandemic conditions became known, future meetings are still uncertain so firm dates cannot be set at present.
